Hanging plants make use of vertical space and create a lush, layered look that floor plants can't achieve. Here are the best options for every light level.
Bright to Medium Light
Pothos (Epipremnum aureum) — The king of hanging plants. Grows fast, tolerates a wide range of conditions, and trails elegantly. Available in golden, marble queen, neon, and other varieties.
Heartleaf Philodendron — Similar to pothos, with slightly larger, heart-shaped glossy leaves. Very forgiving.
String of Pearls (Senecio rowleyanus) — Trailing strings of spherical leaves. Needs bright light and very infrequent watering. Stunning but needs a brighter spot.
Spider Plant — Produces long arching leaves and baby plants (spiderettes) on trailing stems. Tolerates medium light.
Lower Light
Devil's Ivy (Pothos) — One of the few trailing plants that genuinely tolerates lower light conditions.
String of Hearts (Ceropegia woodii) — Delicate heart-shaped leaves on long thin stems. Tolerates medium-low light.
