2. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly, such as your email address and display name when you create an account. If you subscribe to GreenScout Premium, payment is processed by Stripe — we do not store your payment card details. We also collect anonymous usage data (pages visited, features used) via Google Analytics and PostHog, but only if you accept cookies — see section 4 below.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to provide and improve our service, send account-related emails (such as subscription confirmations), personalise your experience (such as saved plants and reminders), and — with your consent — analyse usage patterns to improve our features. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
4. Cookies and Consent
We use essential cookies to keep you logged in and remember your preferences — these cannot be disabled and require no consent, since they are strictly necessary for the site to function. We use Google Analytics (GA4) and PostHog for analytics, but their scripts do not load and no analytics cookies are set until you click "Accept all" on the cookie banner shown on your first visit. If you click "Reject non-essential", or close the banner without choosing, no analytics scripts run and no analytics cookies are set. You can review or change your choice at any time using the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer of every page, which reopens the consent banner.
5. Data Storage
Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase, hosted in data centres in Europe and the United States. We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data from unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure.
6. Your Rights (GDPR)
If you are based in the European Union, European Economic Area, or United Kingdom, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR): the right to access the personal data we hold about you; the right to request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data; the right to request deletion of your data (the right to be forgotten); the right to object to or restrict how we process your data; the right to data portability, to receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format; the right to withdraw consent for analytics cookies at any time via the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer; and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. You can delete your account directly from your account settings page. To exercise any of these rights, contact privacy@greenscout.app — we will respond within 30 days.
7. Third-Party Services
GreenScout uses the following third-party services: Google Firebase (authentication and database), Stripe (payment processing), Anthropic (AI features for Premium subscribers), Vercel (website hosting), Google Analytics (anonymised traffic measurement, only if you accept cookies), and PostHog (product analytics, only if you accept cookies). Each of these services has its own privacy policy.
8. Children's Privacy
GreenScout is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us immediately.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or by posting a notice on our website. Your continued use of GreenScout after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
