Ferns are ancient plants that have been around for hundreds of millions of years. They're also one of the most complained-about houseplants. The problem isn't the plant — it's trying to grow a moisture-loving, humidity-demanding plant in a dry centrally-heated home.

Best Fern Varieties for Indoors

Boston Fern (Nephrolepis exaltata) — Classic, arching fronds. Tolerates lower humidity than most ferns.

Maidenhair Fern (Adiantum) — Delicate and beautiful. Demands high humidity and consistent moisture.

Bird's Nest Fern (Asplenium nidus) — More forgiving, shiny undivided fronds, tolerates lower light.

Light
