Causes
Caused by the fungus Elsinoe veneta, most common in raspberries and other cane fruits, spreading via rain splash in cool, wet spring conditions.

Treatment
Cut out and destroy infected canes at ground level after fruiting, and apply fungicide in early spring as new growth emerges in wet seasons.

Thin canes to improve air circulation, avoid overhead irrigation, and plant certified disease-free canes.
