Causes

Caused by the fungus Venturia oleaginea (formerly Spilocaea oleagina, also known as peacock spot), favored by mild, wet weather in autumn and spring.

Remove fallen infected leaves, prune to improve air circulation through the canopy, and apply copper-based fungicide in autumn and spring in high-risk areas.
