Phytophthora Blight

Caused by Phytophthora species that thrive in waterlogged or poorly drained soil, spreading via water-borne spores that infect stems and roots, especially during warm, wet weather.

Remove and destroy affected plants promptly, improve drainage in the planting area, and apply a suitable fungicide preventively on remaining plants in high-risk conditions.

Avoid overwatering and waterlogged soil, use raised beds or improve drainage, and avoid working in wet soil around susceptible plants.
