Chaenomeles speciosa

shrub

A deciduous to semi-evergreen shrub valued for its early spring flowers in shades of red, pink, orange, or white, often appearing before the leaves emerge. Growing 6–10 feet tall and wide, it produces fragrant, quince-like fruit in fall that can be used for jellies and preserves. Its thorny branches also provide excellent wildlife cover.
