Cyperus papyrus, commonly known as Egyptian papyrus, is an iconic tall sedge with distinctive umbrella-shaped clusters of fine, hair-like green bracts at the stem tips. Historically used to make papyrus paper in ancient Egypt, it grows in tropical to subtropical wetlands and shallow water. It is a dramatic ornamental for warm-climate water gardens and bog plantings.
