Stem rot fungi thrive in waterlogged conditions, which is a particular risk for Snake Plant since its succulent tissue holds moisture — watering more often than the recommended every 2–6 weeks, or a heavy potting mix instead of a cactus/succulent blend, creates the damp conditions this fungus needs.
How to treat stem rot in Snake Plant
Remove affected leaves entirely at the base — they won't recover once blackened. Dust the remaining healthy base with sulphur fungicide and improve drainage by repotting into a cactus/succulent mix if not already using one.

Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix (a sand-topped mulch layer helps too), and stick to watering only every 2–6 weeks once soil is fully dry.
